Down an alleyway in a hole in the wall, some of Hamilton’s yummiest cocktails are created.
Wonder Horse is one of Hamilton’s favourite bars, hosting more people every Friday and Saturday night than the small space can probably handle.
It features a small downstairs space with a loft up above with more seating, and the walls of the bar are decorated with foreign cash.
All cocktails are invented in house, bar manager Matias Fitzwater said. His next idea is to infuse cacao nibs he picked up from the Solomans Gold chocolate factory into rum.
Their bestseller is a drink called the Shanghai Sally.
Why do you think it's so appealing?
“One reason is that gin is fairly approachable to people. And two is that it’s on the sweeter side of the metric of drinks.
“It’s something I would recommend to somebody if they like gin drinks and aren’t too familiar with our menu, it’s good to start with.”
“We’re fairly welcoming to anybody that wants to come and try some delicious drinks and have a really good time.”
Who's attracted to it?
“Pretty much everyone. We’re fairly welcoming to anybody that wants to come and try some delicious drinks and have a really good time. We have two different DJs on a Friday and Saturday night. We also try to educate people on what they’re drinking so that they come away having learnt something, and it’s more of a whole experience.”
How much is it?
“$22. In the world of cocktails, that’s pretty run-of-the-mill, standard. Especially for all the booze you’re getting with this drink.”
What's your favourite item/product?
“Probably the Juno. It’s a delicious sweet and savoury mix of lemon, Calvados, which is a French apple brandy, orgeat, which is an almond syrup, and cognac. And it’s topped with beer. So it’s something out of the normal round of what you’d see as standard cocktails, but it’s delightful.”
This is section three! so cool! !!!
